VMware vSphere 8 [ICM] Full Course – Episode 01: Course Introduction

VMware vSphere is a virtualization platform that provides a comprehensive suite of virtualization products for creating, managing, and optimizing virtualized environments. Here are some key components and features of VMware vSphere:

  • ESXi (vSphere Hypervisor): This is the bare-metal hypervisor that allows you to virtualize servers and create virtual machines (VMs) on a physical host. ESXi is the foundation for building a vSphere environment.
  • vCenter Server: vCenter Server is a centralized management platform that allows you to manage multiple ESXi hosts and their associated VMs from a single interface. It provides features like VM provisioning, monitoring, and resource management.
  • vSphere Client: This is the web-based user interface for managing your vSphere environment. It allows you to perform tasks such as creating and configuring VMs, managing host resources, and monitoring performance.
  • vSphere Networking: vSphere provides robust networking capabilities, including features like distributed virtual switches, network I/O controls, and support for VLANs. This helps in creating and managing complex network topologies for VMs.
  • vSphere Storage: vSphere supports various storage technologies, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, and others. It provides features like Storage vMotion for moving VMs between datastores and VMFS (Virtual Machine File System) for managing VM files.
  • High Availability (HA): HA ensures the availability of VMs by automatically restarting them on other hosts in case of a host failure.
  • Fault Tolerance (FT): FT provides continuous availability for VMs by creating a secondary VM that mirrors the primary VM. If the primary VM fails, the secondary VM takes over without any downtime.
  • vSphere DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler): DRS dynamically allocates and balances computing resources across a cluster of hosts to optimize performance.
  • vSphere Update Manager (VUM): VUM automates the patching and updating of ESXi hosts and VMs.
